T6G Texan TA-042 registered as Harvard G-BGHU

Originally constructed in 1941 as an AT6C with wooden rear fuselage and tail, to save strategic materials. Re-manufactured in 1950 by North American as a TG6, the rear fuselage and tail being replaced in standard metal construction at that time.

Engine	-  Pratt & Whitney "Wasp" R1340 9-cylinder radial 600hp
Maximum speed	- 240 m.p.h in military specification.  250 m.p.h. in race specification has been achieved in U.S.A. on a similar aircraft
Climb	- 1,350 feet per minute
Cruise	- 130-185 m.p.h.
Fuel consumption	-take-off 56 imperial gallons per hour. - cruise 20-40 imperial gallons per hour

The paint scheme of this aircraft represents a T6G as flown in Korea by the 64th TCGP in August 1950. All markings, numbers etc are as originally worn during its service with the U.S.A.F.

In this guise T6's were used in the Korean war for forward air control and target marking. They were armed with phosphor rockets and machine guns, although the guns were removed later in the campaign as the pilots spent too much time shooting up targets rather than marking them for others to destroy!

History of G-BGHU

1942/56	Served with the U.S.A.A.F. and U.S.A.F.
1957	Sold to the French  Air Force and armed with four wing mounted machine guns, two bombs and six rockets. Saw service in the Algerian campaign.
1962	Sold to the Portuguese Air Force seeing service in both Portugal and West Africa. Modified to take under wing multi-racket launching pods and anti SAM flare system fitted
1979	De mobbed to the United KIngdom. Armaments removed.
1986	Purchased by the current owner, Chris Bellhouse and based at Headcorn, Kent.
